By First Assistant Fire Chief Andrew Klein
February 9, 2018

The officers of the Bedford Fire Department have have created an online "Pre Plan" form; a project to help our department better respond to emergencies at your residence or building. It takes only a few minutes to complete, but will help save precious minutes in an emergency.

The Pre Plan can be filled out by any person associated with your property or residence and electronically sent to us for entry into the Pre-Plan software and books.

**********To locate this form, go to the bottom of this story and click the link***********

The Pre Plan is a tool to help us determine how best to respond to an emergency on your property. The Pre Plan is then access on our apparatus if you need us.

Pre-incident planning is the process of gathering and recording information to help first responders make critical decisions at any given incident, be it a fire, medical emergency, or natural disaster. Property and lives can be saved when the Incident Commander has access to critical information about the building, its residents, and its contents.

Information provided on this form will be confidential and only used by authorized members.

Please fill out a seperate form for each significant building on your property. We do not need a form for small, uninhabited buildings, i.e. small sheds, unless they contain hazardous material that could be a danger if it catches fire.

If you are attaching a floor plan or site plan, please reduce it to 8 1/2" X 11" to fit in a binder. Plans can be inserted as a file, sent electronically via email to preplans@bedfordfire.com, or mailed to us at P.O. Box 230, Bedford, NY 10506.

When you are describing a building, please use the following terminology for the orientation:

A letter designation will be assigned to each exterior side of the building. The front (street address side) of the building will be designated as the "A" side. Once the "A" side has been established, the side immediately to the left will be designated as the "B" side, the rear of the building will be designated as the "C" side and the side to the right from the front will be designated as the "D" side.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at chiefs@bedfordfire.com

We have also included Knox Box information and the applicable ordering process on the Knox Box website.

Respectfully,

Board of Chiefs
