And that's where Bedford Volunteer Fire Department's specially designed Engine 108, a 2000 Mack RD/Gowans-Knight Source Engine, comes into play. Many fire districts in Northern Westchester County do no have pressurized fire hydrants, therefore requiring a water source to be established in the case of a working fire. If there's water, we'll find it.
On May 20th, the Bedford Hills Fire Department had a multiple alarm structure fire at 77 Chestnut Ridge Road, and requested multiple tankers to the scene, along with Engine 108 to establish a water source at the Fox Lane School pond. Moments after the dispatch, Engine 108 was responding and quickly set up a source, allowing for the "shuttling" of tankers between the Engine and the scene. Operations were conducted for several hours, working with tankers from Armonk, Banksville, Bedford Hills, Goldens Bridge, Katonah, Pound Ridge, and Somers Fire Departments. The blaze was brought under control by the evening hours.
During the duration of the fire, the Bedford Volunteer Fire Depatment received two calls for EMS and a working car fire on Interstate 684. Thank you to the departments that assisted us with mutual aid throughout the day.
The cause of the fire at 77 Chestnut Ridge Road is still under investigation.
